One of many greatest coups of Tiger King, the Netflix docuseries turned cultural phenomenon, was the participation of Rick Kirkham.
For a complete 12 months, the previous Inside Version reporter—who’d labored with one other “large asshole” (his phrases) in Invoice O’Reilly—filmed a reality-show pilot centered on Joe Unique and his Larger Wynnewood Unique Animal Park in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. After which their total manufacturing studio mysteriously burned down in the midst of the night time, and with it, a lot of the footage Kirkham shot of Joe Unique and his (mistreated, criminally underpaid) staffers.
However not all of it.
Kirkham, 61, equipped loads of his remaining footage to the makers of Tiger King, which is a giant cause why the docuseries seems to have such wealthy, up-close-and-personal entry to Joe Unique and crew. Nonetheless, there’s some wild stuff that has but to see the sunshine of day.
We reached out to Kirkham who equipped us with the sizzle reel of his aborted actuality present he filmed on Joe Unique, titled Joe Unique: Tiger King. In it, there’s fascinating (and terrifying) footage of staffers (and Joe) being mauled by tigers and lions in addition to scenes of Joe mistreating his workforce, most of whom have been paid solely $100 a day—together with firing them for having sexual relations with each other (staffers have been pressured to signal a doc pledging they might not have intercourse with different staffers, regardless of Joe being a polygamist whose husbands labored on the G.W. Zoo) or not assembly his extraordinary calls for.
